The story of Shadow, my trusty tiny travel trailer

I spent the summer of 2020 trying to find a safe way for a pandemic escape excursion from Kansas City, MO to the Monterey Bay area of California. I lucked into the purchase of this new Ascape Plus in September 2020 from a dealership in Wisconsin. I began the trip in November 2020 after a month of making Shadow complete and accommodating for my big adventure. In order to avoid winter freezing, I took the southern route via Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, Joshua Tree National Park, Mt. Baldy (LA), Pismo Beach, and the long winding HWY 1 north on a foggy, gray day. We arrived for Thanksgiving with my son in Pacific Grove, CA. Shadow remained parked with shore power on a flat driveway below my son’s carriage apartment in Pacific Grove for five months where she served only as my sleeping and reading rooms. When the CA park system reopened in February 2021, we traveled the short distance to Pinnacles National Park and watched Condor couples preening! We finally headed back to Kansas City, MO via the Grand Canyon where we boondocked for five days and lived and hiked in awe of the majesty of this amazing place. Then onward via New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Kansas arriving home in Missouri in late April 2021. Of course, I fell in love with the Monterey Bay area and now travel regularly by plane with no extra time to enjoy my fabulous Ascape. I have held onto Shadow for so long because the thought of losing this adorable, accommodating tiny home leaves me anguished. But alas, it is time to move on and allow someone else to enjoy her unmatched qualities and take her on more adventures.

Shadow has always been hooked up to electricity when in storage in my yard, drained and kept from freezing in the winter with a space heater. There have been no chemicals in her systems, except occasional chlorine rinses to the fresh water tank. Everything is original: battery and tires included. These items are now over three years old, which may be their lifespan (not in miles but in age), although the battery has been tendered constantly except when boondocking or dry camping for less than a week at a time. This sale will be “as-is,” with cash, cashier’s check drawn locally, or PayPal at $17,750 (to share “goods and services fee” charged by PayPal). The title is clear with no liens. With my road warrior days behind me for the foreseeable future, I am including all of the extra items purchased to keep us safe and comfortable. As a former car camper and newbie to RVing, I was shocked at the add-ons required to be road worthy, so maybe these extra items will help Shadow’s new owner immediately hit the road. Happy Trails!
