WatercolorGear™ was designed as ergonomic field gear for plein air watercolor artists. It is the lightest plein air field gear available.
It is also suitable for use in the studio.

WatercolorGear’s ThirdArm platform holds your painting supplies to the side of your tripod in easy reach of the hand you use to paint.
The WatercolorGear™ line includes its unique Revolution easel with built-in diffuser that shields your watercolor paper from light interference.
The line includes two additional more traditional style easels, Enabler easel and Enabler with Ledge.

ThirdArm is an adjustable platform that places your painting supplies in easy reach of your painting hand at an ergonomic height so you don’t have to lean over to mix paint and bob up and down from your palette to your watercolor paper. This ergonomic position allows you to paint without reaching over a front-hanging shelf to comfortably mix and place paint on your paper.
  • ThirdArm clamps anywhere on the leg or center column of your tripod or any stationary, round or flat surface that is between .24” to 1.38”
  • ThirdArm weighs only 1.5 lbs.
  • The 12″ x 12″ aluminum composite platform holds all your painting supplies

Revolution with built-in diffuser holds your watercolor paper to your tripod while shielding your paper from unwanted light interference

Revolution easel with built-in diffuser avenges dappled light or blasting sun and has saved the day when caught in rainy conditions, too.
In wind it works better than an umbrella and is much easier to pack and carry.

Without the diffuser function,
Revolution unfolds to hold up to a ½ sheet in either landscape or portrait mode

When open and without diffuser function, Revolution provides a work area that is 15.75″ x 23.75″ to directly tape or clip your watercolor paper

Revolution can hold any size paper on separate supports resting on the attached ledge allowing you to paint on more than one painting without removing any paintings from the supports

We recommend clipping the support to the Revolution using the included closure clip
(Separate supports not included)

Because of Revolution’s versatility, it is the only easel you will need
keeping your field gear lightweight and manageable
Revolution is NOT effective against light from behind and may take positioning of your easel to completely block unwanted light on your paper, depending on the angle and direction of light

WatercolorGear™ Enabler easels are traditional supports for your watercolor paper and come in two models:

Enabler connects to your tripod’s quick release with the attached Enabler connecter. Clip or tape a 1/4 sheet of watercolor paper directly to the Enabler

I use and like the Benro Slim Aluminum Tripod which weighs 2.6 lbs and packs to 12.9″
This tripod is moderately priced and available here with free shipping.
Together, Revolution and ThirdArm weigh a mere 2.52 lbs and provide incomparable portability and flexibility when painting on location. When used with a lightweight tripod like the Benro Slim Travel tripod (NOT included), the entire set-up weighs 5.12 lbs.
